The aim of this course is to provide operators with the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely operate a Slinger Signaller. This course includes theory and practical elements, with tests being conducted on each.
By the end of the course, delegates should be able to:
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the industry and their roles and responsibilities
- Conform to manufacturer’s requirements as per technical data, regulations and legislation
- Identify different types of lifting equipment/accessories and explain their functions
- Interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation
- Conduct all pre-use checks on non-specialist lifting accessories and identify non-serviceable items
- Explain the procedure for placing non-serviceable items out of service
- Identify and explain centres of gravity and calculate estimated weights of loads
- Confirm methods of communication with the machine operator
- Assess and confirm that the area contains suitable locations to undertake marshalling duties
- Set up an exclusion zone, identifying any overhead hazards
- Secure and detach various types of loads using the relevant lifting accessories and procedures
- Guide, control and accurately place loads, using different communication methods, ensuring the load’s balance, security and integrity
- Provide directions where the machine operator cannot observe the full path of the load
- Carry out all out of service and securing procedures
