The aim of this course is to provide operators with the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely as a Skip Loader. This course includes theory and practical elements, with tests being conducted on each.
By the end of the course, delegates should be able to:
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of the industry and their roles and responsibilities as an operator
- Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the machine and how to operate it safely
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook
- Locate and identify the major components and controls of the machine and explain their functions
- Conduct all pre-operation checks
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Safely mount and dismount the machine
- Configure the machine for travel then move off and stop safely
- Manoeuvre the machine safely when laden and unladen, over varying terrain and rough ground, in open and confined areas and on inclines
- Ensure the suitability of the tipping and loading area
- Position the vehicle to pick up and place skips, including areas with height and width restrictions
- Safely pick up, transfer and deposit skips of various sizes and weights
- Transfer loads to different locations, ensuring the load integrity and security
- Deposit loads from a skip or container
- Ensure deposited skips or bodies are left in a safe manner
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.
