Skip Loader

The aim of this course is to provide operators with the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely as a Skip Loader. This course includes theory and practical elements, with tests being conducted on each.

By the end of the course, delegates should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the industry and their roles and responsibilities as an operator
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the machine and how to operate it safely
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook
  • Locate and identify the major components and controls of the machine and explain their functions
  • Conduct all pre-operation checks
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
  • Safely mount and dismount the machine
  • Configure the machine for travel then move off and stop safely
  • Manoeuvre the machine safely when laden and unladen, over varying terrain and rough ground, in open and confined areas and on inclines
  • Ensure the suitability of the tipping and loading area
  • Position the vehicle to pick up and place skips, including areas with height and width restrictions
  • Safely pick up, transfer and deposit skips of various sizes and weights
  • Transfer loads to different locations, ensuring the load integrity and security
  • Deposit loads from a skip or container
  • Ensure deposited skips or bodies are left in a safe manner
  • Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.

NPORS
The course duration depends on the experience level of the operators attending. Typically they are -

- Novice | 3 days | max 3 operators
- Refresher | 1 day | max 3 operators
- Experienced Worker Course | 2-days | max 3 operators
- Experienced Worker Testing | 1-day | max 6 operators
