Before You Book Your CSCS Touch Screen Test

To apply for a CSCS green labourers card, both first time applications and renewals, you must have completed a CITB approved Health & Safety course.

If you need to complete a course we offer the SQA Level 1 Award: Health & Safety in a Construction Environment and REHIS Elementary Health & Safety, which are both approved routes for gaining your CSCS green labourers card.

You cannot apply for your CSCS card if you have not achieved an approved H&S training qualification.

We recommend undertaking this training first, and learners can prepare for their test by using either the CITB app or using a recommended book available from the CITB website, amazon, etc.

Course Information

Test Types

There are three types of HS&E Test:

Operatives
Specialists
Managers & Professionals

Each test is made up of the following five core knowledge areas:

legal and management
health and welfare
general safety
high risk activities
environment

The specialist test then includes questions relevant to the candidates are of specialism and the managers and professionals test includes questions regarding construction regulations, demolition and highway works.

Testing is conducted via computer in our internet test centre and all tests are invigilated.

There is a short tutorial prior to commencing the test, which ensures candidates understand how to navigate the system and answer questions.

Candidate Numbers
Individuals and groups of up to 6 candidates per session, with 2-3 sessions running per day

Who should attend

This course would be relevant for candidates who require any level of CSCS card.

Under 16’s must obtain parental consent prior to sitting the test.

How to prepare

It is advisable the candidate’s view the setting out video available from the CITB website as well as utilise the relevant study material.

Candidates must ensure they bring relevant forms of ID, otherwise the they cannot be permitted to enter the testing room.

Duration

Candidates should arrive 30 minutes prior to their testing slot for registration. Then the test itself lasts 45 minutes.

Assessment

Candidates have 45 minutes to answer the 50 questions. Candidates must get 45 questions correct out of the 50 to pass the test.

Price

Tests cost £42 per person +VAT.

CSCS cards can be ordered direct with CITB for £36 incl of VAT.

Validity

The renewal of the touch screen test is typically linked to the renewal of a CSCS card. To renew a CSCS card the touch screen test must have been completed within the past two years of the card expiry date.
