Course Aim

The aim of this course is to check that a tight-fitting face piece matches the person’s facial features and seals adequately to the wearer’s face as well as provide them with the understanding of the importance of RPE and the effective use, storage and disposal of equipment.

Briefing Content

A safety briefing is included in the fit testing process, it is at the clients discretion whether they wish this to include this awareness session.

Prior to testing a health assessment and suitability to proceed with testing will also be undertaken.

The safety briefing covers:

Importance of wearing RPE
RPE types and selection
Correct donning of mask and fit check
Care and maintenance
Responsibilities between the user and employer

Fit testing can be delivered in a variety of settings, health assessments/suitability needs to be discussed on a 121 basis, fit testing can be undertaken in the Raeburn Training office and clients workplaces and suitable site facilities.

Who should attend

Relevant for operatives who wear dusts masks in order to protect themselves during tasks that expose them to hazardous airborne particles.

How to prepare

Operatives must be clean shaven, within at least 8 hours of the scheduled test time, and bring the mask(s) with them to be tested. If you do not have a mask, please speak to your employer, or contact our team.

Operatives must not eat, drink, smoke, or vape 30 minutes before the test.

Do not attend the test if you have had cold or sinus problems 7 days previous to the test or have not been checked by an occupational nurse.

Testing cannot be completed if these pre-requisites are not adhered to.

Duration

½ day per group or approx. 30 minutes for individual bookings.

Assessment

Candidates will be fitted with their masks and a short test conducted. The mask itself is a pass or fail, based on the following:

Pass: the candidate does not detect the solution
Fail: the candidate does detect the solution

Candidates will receive a certificate of attendance along with their test results.

Price

£40 per person +VAT

Closed group price is £300 +VAT, for up to 8 learners.

Validity

It is recommended that candidates renew their certificate annually or when there is a change in the mask type, size, model or material or if there is a change to the circumstances of the wearer e.g. weight loss, facial piercings, substantial dental work etc.
