Course Aim

Vehicle Marshals are responsible for the movement of vehicles on a construction site. They help to ensure movements are made safely, taking into account the busy surroundings, potential hazards, uneven ground and site layouts. The communication methods required to manoeuvre in a safe, and controlled manner, are taught on this course.

This course can be taught as an NPORS accredited course, or as an in-house Raeburn Training certificate.

Course Content

By the end of the course, you will have an understanding of: 

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the industry and their roles and responsibilities as a vehicle marshal.
  • Identify a range of vehicles, and identify driver visibility aids, explaining their functionality, advantages and limitations.
  • Explain how ground conditions, hazards and weight limits affect the operations of vehicles.
  • Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
  • Describe and demonstrate different types of communication methods.
  • Understand how to use these methods to communicate information to drivers.
  • Know how to assess and confirm exclusion zones are maintained and have suitable for manoeuvering.
  • Safely guide vehicles in open spaces, confined areas and ‘blind’ areas  Position, at exact given locations, a range of vehicles 
  • Carry out all end of shift, shut down and parking procedures.

Those who are responsible for, or may be asked to be involved in, directing vehicles on site should attend this course.

Where to attend

Open courses delivered at Raeburn Training, Midfield Skills Development Centre.

Closed courses can be delivered at either at Raeburn Training premises, or on client premises.

Practical assessment and a multiple-choice assessment.
